BUZZ
She appeared to disappear
One-woman stand-up tragedy, BUZZ tracks the true story of Trish Lyons and her turbulent journey from living in fear to reclaiming her life. Using dark humour and poetic storytelling to recount Trish’s personal experiences when ehr life was shattered by a series of tragic events. In a raw exploration of the circumstances that led to her unravelling. Trish’s story unfolds through visions and fragments of memory, expertly mobing between past and present as she uses art to uncover a deeper understand of what is to see and to be seen.
Ultimately a story of survival and the redemptive power of art, BUZZ navigates a stalking in Toronto, a suicide in London, a nervous breakdown and time spent in a mental hospital. Drawing on her experience as a lecturer in Fine Art and lead singer in the post-punk band Viralux, Trish Lyons brings her unique experiences and unflinching honesty to her first one-woman show.
Having described BUZZ as kaleidoscopic - part lecture, part confessional, part hymn to survival - writer and performer Trish Lyons speaks about bringing the show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for 2025, commenting, I’m thrilled to be bringing my debut show to the Edinburgh Fringe - a festival that holds a special place in my heart. I once worked in the Assembly Press Room where I met my future husband, the producer Marshall Cordell. We returned last year to get married at the Fringe, amking this year’s show all the more meaningful.
Lyons will be direct by Lee Brock (Lyle Kessler’s Perp, Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party, NY Times Critic’s Pick, Uncle Vanya), the Co-Artistic Director of The Barrow Group, a multi-award-winning theatre company based in New York City. BUZZ is co-produced in partnership with Marshall Cordell (Bomb-ity of Errors, Ambassador’s Theatre, London West End, 50 Shades! The Musical Parody, Edinburgh Festival Fringe and world tour), who is renowned for having been actively and consistently involved in high-quality Edinburgh Fringe shows for over twenty years. Together, they have created BUZZ, a deeply moving exploration of the power of catharsis and the ability of performance to heal old wounds.
