Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Trish Lyons studied at University of New Brunswick and York University before moving to London, England in 1993. She received her Ph.D. in contemporary art practice in1999 from Central Saint Martins College of Art. Specializing in sculpture, her Ph.D. was part of the CSM Foundry Research Project funded by the Leverhulm and Henry Moore Foundations. She went on to be the joint Head of Sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts (1999-2004) and ran the post-graduate lecture programme in contemporary performance in Scenography at Central Saint Martins College (1999-2009). She was a Research Fellow at Central School of Speech and Drama (2010-11) and led the research programmes in Sculpture and Fine Art at the Royal College of Art (2000-2015). Since 2015, she has had her studio near Guadalajara, Mexico.
TRISH
My art work takes the form of writing, performance, and sculpture. I perform as part of the art and music project Viralux, as the avatar Tiger Lady, and as vocalist with Valentine Lyons . My lectures are informed by these performances. Viralux continues long distance between London and Mexico. I will be posting here on this website about past, present and future projects including Viralux and Tiger Lady appearances. I am currently developing a new performance piece on gravity and levitation. I write art reviews, catalogue essays, scripts and support students with their disseration/thesis. LYONS
I awoke in a dream, all human, pure animal, sensing the space between my eyes and feet formed an outline that unfolds over an ever shifting horizon. I am figuring it out. Being an artist allows me to be an effective human being. It gives me the tools to make, to enquire, to write, to speak and to teach. Worlds within worlds, umwelts full of wonders, mystery and riddles unfolding.
